Bullis Charter School ("BCS") is a public school that charges no tuition but receives only limited public funding. Unfortunately, Los Altos School District does not currently share any portion of local parcel tax revenues with BCS. As State funding fails to keep pace with education costs, parcel tax funds have become increasingly important, providing almost 20% of LASD revenues.
We have set a fundraising goal for the 2009 - 2010 school year of $1.4 million, which is equal to an average donation of $4,000 per student. However, this year the "gap" between the amount BCS has budgeted per student and the amount we receive in public funding support is approximately $5,000 per student. The Foundation has committed to provide roughly $1.6 million to the BCS budget for the 2009-2010 school year. While we are working on developing additional funding sources, our current funding model depends upon our families to fund this gap through tax-deductible donations to the Annual Campaign. We ask our families to be as generous as possible in supporting our school for all our children!
We understand that for some of our families, a tax deductible donation of $4,000 per student is simply not feasible. We ask that families openly discuss their situation with a Foundation member as early as possible and donate as much as they are able towards the suggested level, recognizing that other school families will need to make up the difference. Last year more than 80% gave at the suggested donation level or above and more than 50% of families covered the full funding gap. Such broad participation is what makes our funding model sustainable!
THE FOUNDATION APPRECIATES EACH AND EVERY CONTRIBUTION!
